ACB arrests Senior Accountant for accepting bribe

SRINAGAR, Jul 24: The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) traps and arrests Senior Accountant of the State Industrial Develop-ment Corporation (SIDCO) demanding and accepting bribes in Srinagar on Wednesday.
ACB, in a statement, said that it received a written complaint alleging therein that a public servant identified as Mohammad Yaseen Sheikh, Senior Accountant, SIDCO, Khunmoh, Srinagar, is demanding Rs 20,000 as a bribe for processing the case of the complainant of a supplementary partnership deed. However, after negotiation, the amount was settled as Rs 15,000.
The complainant chose not to pay a bribe and instead approached ACB for taking legal action against the accused public servant as provided under law.
On receipt of the complaint, discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand by the public servant concerned, and accordingly, Case FIR No. 18/2024 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and an investigation taken up.
During the course of the investigation, a trap team was constituted, who laid a successful trap and caught the accused public servant red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.
He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.
Further investigation of the instant case is going on, the ACB statement said.
