SRINAGAR, Jul 25: The Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday exhorted soldiers posted along the volatile Line of Control (LoC) to remain steadfast in meeting emerging security challenges.
In his first visit to Kashmir, after taking over as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen Dwivedi visited the forward areas in Kupwara district of north Kashmir and reviewed the security situation along the LoC. Gen Dwivedi visited Jammu twice, after taking over as the COAS, and reviewed the security amid the rise in attacks in the region.
"General Upendra Dwivedi COAS, visited the forward locations of #ChinarCorps & reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control LOC. He also interacted with the Commanders and troops on ground," Army's Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), posted on X. "
"COAS lauded All Ranks for maintaining high standards of professionalism & exhorted them to remain steadfast in meeting emerging security challenges," it added.
The visit to Kashmir comes two days after a gun battle in the Kupwara district left a soldier Naik (Gunner) Dilwar Khan and an unidentified militant dead. The Kupwara district, bordering Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), has witnessed three gun battles this month that have left five suspected foreign infiltrators dead.
The army has been maintaining a tight vigil along the LoC amid inputs of possible infiltration.
