As the third and final phase of the Legislative Assembly Elections in Jammu & Kashmir approaches, the political atmosphere is charged with anticipation and strategic maneuvering. Scheduled for October 1st, this decisive phase will see over 39.18 lakh voters determining the fate of 415 candidates across 40 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in seven districts. This phase encapsulates the vibrant democratic spirit of the region, offering a glimpse into the complexities and dynamics of its political landscape. Baramulla, in North Kashmir, emerges as a focal point with 25 candidates competing for the electorate's favor. This high number of contestants underscores the intense political engagement in the area, reflecting a wide array of political opinions and platforms. In contrast, the Akhnoor constituency in the Jammu district presents a more streamlined contest with only three candidates. This disparity highlights the varied political climates within the region, where some areas witness fierce competition while others have a more straightforward electoral battle.
The voter demographics for this phase are particularly noteworthy. Out of the 39,18,220 eligible voters, there are 20,09,033 males, 19,09,130 females, and 57 third-gender individuals. This diversity underscores the inclusive nature of the electoral process, ensuring representation across gender lines. Moreover, the participation of 1.94 lakh young voters aged 18 to 19 is a significant aspect of this election. Furthermore, the elections have been made accessible to 35,860 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and 32,953 voters aged above 85.
