Government taking action to beef up security at Bangladeshi missions in India: MEA

New Delhi, Dec 2: The Indian government on Monday termed as deeply regrettable the breaching of security at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala by a rowdy mob and said that it is taking action to step up security arrangements for the other Bangladeshi establishments in the country.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said:
"The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances. Government is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Comm-ission in New Delhi and their Deputy/ Assistant High Commissions in the country."
The statement came after the Bangladeshi Assistant High Commission in Agartala was attacked by a large crowd of saffron flag waving people, who also allegedly tore down the Bangladesh national flag there.
Visuals on social media showed the crowd shouting slogans as they crowded around the Agartala mission of the Bangladesh government, even as the police persons watched helplessly.
Relations between the two neighbours have turned tense since the August 5 ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government, with the army-backed Interim government taking over. The arrest and denial of bail to Hindu monk Chinmoy Krisha Das by the Bangladesh government last week has led to loud protests by Hindu groups and the ISKCON in India and abroad.
While India has called on the Bangladesh interim government to ensure the safety and security of the Hindus and other minority groups, Dhaka has termed it as its own internal matter.
