GCW Bhagwati Nagarorganizes extensive Disaster Management Awareness Program

Jammu, Feb 15: Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, organized an extensive Disaster Management Awareness Program aimed at equipping students and staff with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to emergencies. This initiative aligns with the institution's commitment to fostering a safe, prepared, and resilient academic environment.
As part of this awareness program, a student seminar and an essay writing competition were conducted on the theme Disaster Management. The essay writing competition saw the enthusiastic participation of around fifteen students, who articulated their perspectives on disaster preparedness and response strategies. The competition was evaluated by Dr. Mosmi Raina and Prof. Gagan Jyoti, with Kajal, Laxmi Devi, and Amandeep Kour of B.A. Semester 6 securing first, second, and third positions, respectively.
In addition, a student seminar was organized, where approximately ten students presented their insights on various aspects of disaster management, including natural and man-made disasters, first-aid techniques, emergency evacuation plans, and effective response strategies. The seminar provided a valuable platform for students to deepen their understanding of disaster risk reduction and mitigation measures.
A key highlight of the event was an interactive session with Dr. Muzaffar Hussain and Mr. Goyal Giri, who engaged with students to encourage active participation in disaster preparedness initiatives. They emphasized the importance of leadership roles in disaster management teams, contributing to the development of emergency response protocols, and fostering a culture of awareness and readiness.
