Amit terms Cooperation as the basis of success for allied sectors in NABARD State Credit Seminar

Aizawl, Feb 15: Amit Sharma, Secretary to Goverment, ICT & Cooperation, Mizoram termed Cooperation department as the basis of success for allied sectors including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, etc during a very important State Credit Seminar held here under the Chairpersonship of Chief Minister Lalduhoma wherein two cabinet ministers, two Administrative Secretaries, Senior Bankers from the Banking Fraternity, SLBC coordinators, Lead District Managers (LDMs), and Developmental Agencies, including NGOs also actively participated.
During his address, Secretary Cooperation Mizoram, Amit Sharma emphasized that the International Year of Cooperatives, as decided by the United Nations for 2025, has to be implemented in letter and spirit, under which awareness-cum-sensitisation drives shall be organised in all the districts of Mizoram, led by Secretary Cooperation himself and teams of RCS Office, which is part of an annual Calendar of Events, to be followed for IYC throughout the year.
Secretary Cooperation, Mizoram, Amit Sharma shared his views on valuable contributions of the Cooperative Sector in Mizoram. He indicated that cooperative membership as a percentage of the population is highest in Kerala (77 per cent), followed by Karnataka (50%), while Mizoram has the lowest at just 4 per cent which shall be picked-up in the coming months. He also divulged that under the PACS computerisation scheme, 25 PACS from Mizoram have been selected for computerization in the first phase. So far, all these 25 PACS have achieved Go-Live status which has been appraiciated by the Cooperation Ministry. During this State Credit Seminar, NABARD released the State Focus Paper for Mizoram 2025-26 in the presence of Chief Minister and all distinguished guests. Chief Minister also honoured progressive initiatives taken in multiple sectors including the role of Apex Cooperative Bank of Mizoram in it.
Pankaja Borah, General Manager (OIC), NABARD, Mizoram Regional Office briefed about the significance of the State Focus Paper in the development planning of the state and emphasised the role of credit along with credit enablers to transform the rural economy of Mizoram.
