Chief Justice meets advocates on senior Designation Process

22/02/2025
JAMMU, Feb 21: The Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court is making efforts to finalize the long-pending process of designating senior advocates. This process has been stalled for the past four years due to the retirement or elevation of five chief justices during this period.
Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan is actively working to ensure justice for deserving advocates who have been awaiting the decision. After discussions with advocates under consideration, he is exploring the possibility of scheduling interactions with the permanent committee of senior judges. Additionally, he plans to convene a full court meeting to finalize the pending designations.
With Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Puneet Gupta set to retire on April 8. In contrast, the Punjab & Haryana High Court aims to finalize the designation of 203 advocates by March 7, 2025. However, since J&K has fewer candidates for interaction, the process is expected to conclude withinh the next week. This long-overdue decision will bring long-awaited recognition to deserving advocates in the region.
