JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Apr 22: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) has announced a complete bandh in Jammu on Wednesday, April 23, to protest the recent terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam. JCCI President Arun Gupta made the announcement, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of violence.
The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) has strongly condemned the brutal assault on innocent civilians, calling it a heinous act that threatens the peace and harmony of the region. In a statement, the Association expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pledged full support to those affected by this tragedy.
In light of the attack, the JKHCBA has organized a joint protest along with various associations and civil society groups, with the venue to be announced later. The Bar Association declared that it would suspend all court activities on April 23, urging judges not to issue any adverse rulings during this period of mourning.
"This barbaric act has no place in a civilized society and represents a direct assault on our shared values of peace, democracy, and human dignity," the statement read. The JKHCBA called on authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and to implement measures to prevent future incidents.
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has also endorsed the bandh, highlighting the need for a united stand against terrorism. JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma urged citizens to participate peacefully, sending a strong message against the violence that has claimed innocent lives.
Additionally, various socio-political organizations and transport associations have rallied behind the bandh call, reflecting a widespread demand for justice and solidarity with the victims' families.
In the Valley, business and travel sectors are also set to observe a shutdown on April 23, following the tragic loss of 26 tourists in the Pahalgam attack, which has been described as one of the deadliest against civilians in recent years. Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), stated, "We aim to collectively condemn this act of violence and show our solidarity with the victims."
The bandh is expected to result in the complete closure of businesses, transport services, and public establishments throughout the region, underscoring the profound impact of this tragedy on the local community.
