Kavinder Gupta appointed Himachal Pradesh Governor; RN Ravi named Bengal Governor, Hasnain Bihar Guv

JAMMU, Mar 5: Former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta was on Thursday appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh as part of a major reshuffle of gubernatorial positions announ-ced by President Droupadi Murmu.
Gupta replaces Shiv Pratap Shukla, who has been appointed Governor of Telangana, according to a communique issued by the President's office.
Earlier in the day, Gupta tendered his resignation as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, nearly eight months after assuming the office, sources said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader had taken oath as the third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on July 18, 2025, replacing B D Mishra. There was no official confirmation regarding the resignation, and the reasons behind the move were not immediately known.
Gupta was the first politician to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh since the region was carved out as a separate Union Territory from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
A senior BJP leader from Jammu, Gupta served as Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018 during the BJP-PDP coalition government. He has also served as Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and as Mayor of the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
In other appointments, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal, succeeding C V Ananda Bose whose resignation has been accepted by the President.
Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) has been appointed the new Governor of Bihar.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, while former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been named the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will discharge the functions of Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra, while Nand Kishore Yadav will be the new Governor of Nagaland, the communique said.
