SRINAGAR, Apr 23: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday called last year's Pahalgam terror attack a deep scar on the collective conscience of the region.
"The Baisaran terror attack remains a deep scar on the collective conscience of the region, with its human and economic consequences still resonating across Kashmir," Abdullah said in a statement here.
The first anniversary of the terror attack in the Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 25 tourists and a ponywallah dead, was observed on Wednesday.
Abdullah said the tragedy continues to weigh heavily on affected families, many of whom are yet to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones.
"Beyond the massive human cost, the incident also dealt a severe blow to the region's tourism sector, which remains a vital pillar of the local economy," he said.
The NC president said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government is making sustained and concerted efforts to revive the tourism sector and restore confidence among visitors.
While early signs of recovery are visible, rebuilding momentum will take time and requires continued support and stability, he said.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the NC chief called for collective resolve to ensure peace, resilience, unity and sustained development in the region.
