Jammu, May 14: A delegation of the Chamber of Tourism Trade and Indus-try Katra on Wednesday met DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma and sought establishment of a dedicated Cyber Police Station in Katra in view of rising cyber fraud cases targeting pilgrims & local businesses. The delegation, led by CTTIK president Raj Kumar Padha & secretary Atul Sharma, submitted a representation to the DIG during a meeting held at his office chamber.
At the outset, the delegation presented a Mata Ki Chunari to the DIG as a mark of respect & gratitu-de for the efforts being made towards maintaining public safety in the region.
The Chamber highlighted that Katra, being the base camp of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, witnesses heavy inflow of devotees from across the country and abroad and has recently seen an increase in cyber-related frauds affecting pilgrims and tourism stak-eholders. The delegation apprised the DIG about fake websites related to helicopter bookings, hotel reservations and travel services, besides digital payment and UPI frauds targeting yatris.
It also raised concerns over cyber impersonation, fake social media profiles, fraudulent online listings, phishing emails, ransom-ware attacks and online harassment affecting local businesses. The Chamber said establishment of a Cyber Police Station in Katra would help ensure a secure digital environment for pilgrims and tourism stakeholders while enhan-cing the image of the pilgrimage town as a safe destination. During the interaction, the delegation also appreciated the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police, particularly the Katra Police unit, in curbing drug peddling under the Drug-Free J&K campaign.
