Jammu, May 15: The District Congress Comm-ittee (DCC) Jammu Urban on Friday held a protest against the BJP-led NDA Government over rising inflation, fuel price hikes, unemployment & economic issues, accusing the Centre of burdening ordinary citizens. The demonstration was organised under the leadership of DCC Jammu Urban president and former minister Yogesh Sawhney and witnessed participation of senior Congress leaders, Mahila Wing members, youth activists and party workers.
Protesters raised slogans against the Central Government and carried placards highlighting increasing prices of petrol and diesel, inflation in essential commodities, un-employment & economic hardship faced by households. Addressing the gathering, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President and former minister Raman Bhalla alleged that the BJP-led government had failed to fulfil promises & adopted policies favouring a limited section at the cost of common citizens.
Bhalla said the latest increase in fuel prices would have a cascading effect on the economy by raising transportation costs and consequently increasing prices of food items, medicines & other essentials. "The common man is being crushed under the weight of inflation.
Household budgets have been shattered, savings are shrinking and purchasing power has declined," Bhalla said.
He alleged that econo-mic policies of the government had widened ineq-ualities & adversely affected farmers, labourers, tra-ders, salaried employees & small entrepreneurs.
The Congress leader also expressed concern over unemployment, saying educated youth were facing delays in recruitment processes and limited job opportunities. Bhalla urged the Centre to roll back fuel price hikes, strengthen welfare measures and implement policies aimed at controlling inflation and generating employment. Speaking on the occasion, Yogesh Sawhney said the protest reflected public anger over the economic situation and rising prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and essential commodities.
