Jammu, May 19: In an effort to strengthen awareness against drug abuse, Natrang, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police, staged Padma Shri Balwant Thakur's Hindi play "AAG" at Bahu Plaza, Jammu, highlighting the devastating impact of addiction on individuals and society.
The play, directed by noted theatre director Neeraj Kant, was attended by DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Shridhar Patil, SP South Vaibhav Meena, DSP East Dr Sachit Sharma, SDPO North Vikram Singh Bhau, SHO Trikuta Nagar Sushil Choudhary, Arun Gupta, President Chambers of Commerce, members of the Bahu Plaza Association, Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang, and a large audience.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Shridhar Patil called for transforming the fight against narcotics into a people's movement, stating that drug addiction is not merely a law-and-order challenge but a serious social issue affecting future generations.
"Drugs destroy not only individuals but entire families and communities.
The youth are the strength and future of our nation, and if they fall prey to addiction, society as a whole suffers," Patil said, urging citizens to actively participate in anti-drug efforts.
He appealed to parents, teachers, social organisations, artists and youth groups to contribute towards awareness campaigns and preventive initiatives.
Highlighting the role of creative mediums in social change, the DIG said theatre and art possess the power to influence minds and inspire behavioural transformation, appreciating Natrang for presenting the issue through an impactful performance.
The play "AAG" portrays drug addiction as a destructive force consuming society and presents multiple narratives reflecting the social, emotional and economic consequences of substance abuse.
