GCW Gandhinagar NCC cadet wins Best Cadet award at national yachting camp

JAMMU, May 29: A National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet of Gover-nment College for Women (GCW), Gandhinagar, Jammu, has brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir by securing the prestigious "Best Cadet (Senior Wing)" award at the Special NCC Yachting Camp 2026 held in Goa.
LC Payal Chib, a cadet of 1 JK Naval Unit NCC, secured the top position among Senior Wing cadets during the camp organized by the Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate and conducted by 1 Goa Naval Unit NCC from May 11 to May 18 at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Goa.
The camp witnessed participation of NCC cadets from various directorates across the country and featured intensive training in sailing and windsurfing under the guidance of Indian Navy instructors.
An examination conducted by the Yachting Association of India assessed the technical knowledge, practical skills and overall competence of the participating cadets.
Officials said Payal Chib excelled in all aspects of the camp and secured first position among Senior Wing cadets owing to her outstanding performance, leadership qualities and sailing skills, earning the title of "Best Cadet (SW)".
During a special interaction session with the Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, her achievements and conduct were highly appreciated.
In recognition of her performance, she was awarded the Red Cap and the Medal of Excellence by the ADG, honours best-owed upon NCC cadets demonstrating exceptional discipline, leadership and commitment.
Principal of GCW Gandhinagar, Prof. Kulvinder Kour, congratulated the cadet on her achievement and said the accomplishment reflected the values of dedication, discipline and perseverance promoted through NCC activities.
She said the success would inspire other students to participate in national-level programmes and strive for excellence in various fields.
The Principal also appreciated the efforts of NCC Officer Dr. Rachna Devi of 1 JK Naval Unit for mentoring and motivating cadets to take part in national-level activities and bring recognition to the institution.
