Jammu, Jun 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Monday staged a protest in Jammu's Bahu constituency against the rising prices of essential commodities, fuel, cooking gas and other daily-use items, accusing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of failing to control inflation. The protest was organised by Bahu Block Congress under the leadership of District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban president Yogesh Sawhney and was presided over by J&K Congress Working President and former minister Raman Bhalla.
A large number of Congress workers, supporters and local residents participated in the demonstration, raising slogans against the Centre and demanding measures to curb inflation and provide relief to the public. Protesters carried placards and banners highlighting the impact of rising prices on households, farmers, traders, labourers and salaried employees.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla alleged that the continuous increase in the prices of essential commodities, cooking gas, petrol, diesel and other household items had placed a heavy burden on the common people.
He claimed that inflation had adversely affected the poor, middle class, farmers and small traders, making it increasingly difficult for many families to manage their daily expenses.
"The government had promised relief to the common man, but people are facing unprecedented inflation. Household budgets have been severely affected and every section of society is feeling the impact of rising prices," Bhalla said.
He further alleged that the increase in fuel prices had contributed to higher transportation costs, resulting in a rise in the prices of essential commodities.
Bhalla urged the government to take concrete steps to control inflation, reduce taxes on fuel and introduce measures aimed at protecting consumers from rising costs.
District Congress Committee Jammu Urban president Yogesh Sawhney also criticised the Centre's economic policies, alleging that they had widened economic disparities and failed to provide relief to ordinary citizens.
Sawhney said the rising prices of food items, LPG cylinders, electricity and fuel had become a major concern for households across the country.
"The common man is being forced to pay more for every essential commodity. Families are struggling to balance their budgets, while traders and small businessmen are also facing difficulties due to rising costs," he said.
