Internship programme for Home Science students begins at University of Jammu

JAMMU, Jun 4: The Postgraduate Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, on Thursday organised an orientation session for M.Sc. Home Science (Human Development) third-semester students, marking the commencement of their internship programme under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and Mission Directorate Poshan, Jammu and Kashmir.
The orientation session was conducted by Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Satwari Project, Tanvi Gupta and Supervisor Madhu Verma.
The resource persons familiarised the students with the functioning of Anganwadi Centres and the services provided under the ICDS and Saksham Anganwadi framework. They highlighted the role of Anganwadi Centres in promoting child development, nutrition, maternal health and community welfare. Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Postgraduate Department of Home Science, Prof. Sarika Manhas, emphasised the importance of field-based learning in enhancing students' understanding of child development programmes and community outreach initiatives.
She said the internship programme would provide valuable practical exposure and professional learning opportunities to the students. Prof. Manhas is serving as the Nodal Officer for the internship programme from the University of Jammu, while Deputy Director, Mission Poshan, J&K, Malvika Sharma, is the Nodal Officer from Mission Poshan.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.
Among those present were Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof. Shashi Manhas and Prof. Samridhi Arora, who encouraged the students to make the best use of the experiential learning opportunity.
The internship programme aims to strengthen the professional competencies of students through direct engagement with community-based child development and welfare services.
