JAMMU, Jun 5: Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, on Friday launched its annual Summer Internship Programme in Media Studies for Semester-IV students pursuing Skill Enhancement Courses in Urdu and Punjabi, officials said.
The 15-day internship programme, being conducted from June 5 to June 22 at News Now Network Jammu, aims to provide practical exposure to the media industry and bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.
Nearly 50 students from the Departments of Urdu and Punjabi are participating in the programme, which offers hands-on training in various aspects of journalism and media production, including camera handling, script writing, voice-over techniques, news anchoring, video editing and newsroom operations.
The programme commenced with a registration and orientation session at the media organisation's Jammu office and will continue through a series of practical training modules conducted by media professionals. According to officials, students who successfully complete the internship will be awarded certificates as part of the university-prescribed curriculum.
The internship is being mentored by Faheem Tak, Head of News Now J&K, while Atiya Mujeeb, News Anchor and Internship Co-Coordinator, is overseeing its coordination. Academic supervision is being provided by Dr Anuradha Sharma, Head of the Punjabi Department, and Dr Liaqat Jafri, Head of the Urdu Department, with support from Dr Taahira Shah and Dr Balbeer. Students from several districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Srinagar, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban, Reasi and Udhampur, are taking part in the programme.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour said such industry-oriented initiatives provide students with valuable practical experience, enhance professional skills and prepare them for career opportunities in the media sector.
She said the programme is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which lays emphasis on experiential learning, skill development and collaboration between academic institutions and industry.
