SRINAGAR, Jun 22: With less than two weeks left for the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday issued a detailed traffic advisory for Yatris, tourists and local commu-ters, outlining vehicle movement restrictions and cut-off timings along key routes in Kashmir.
The yatra is set to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28.
The advisory, aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the 57-day pilgrimage beginning July 3, places restrictions on civilian traffic movement along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and other locations linked to the yatra routes.
According to the advisory, general vehicular traffic travelling from Kashmir towards Jammu will not be allowed to cross the strategic Navyug Tunnel after 11:30 am daily during the pilgrimage period. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Jammu towards Kashmir will not be permitted to cross the tunnel after 3 pm.
Authorities have also announced location-specific cut-off timings at Mir Bazar Anantnag, Pantha Chowk Srinagar, Shadipora-Sumbal Bandipora and Manigam Ganderbal to regulate traffic and facilitate the movement of Amarnath yatra convoys. Travellers, including yatris and tourists reaching these points after the designated timings, will be accommodated at the nearest yatra camp, the advisory said.
The police have urged pilgrims and tourists to plan their journeys in advance, keep sufficient time for weather-related delays, security checks and traffic regulations, and follow directions issued by police and civil administration officials.
The advisory comes as security agencies and the civil administration have intensified preparations for this year's Amarnath Yatra. More than 3.5 lakh devotees have already registered for the annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
