Punjab resident among nine drug peddlers held, Rs 9 lakh bank balance frozen

Jammu, Jun 28: Nine alleged drug peddlers, including a Punjab resident, were arrested with narcotic substances on Sunday as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign across the Jammu region and a bank account containing Rs nine lakh was frozen, police said.
Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Amritsar in Punjab, was arrested in Jammu's Trikuta Nagar and 12.72 grams of heroin and Rs 63,500 were seized from him, a police spokesperson said. During the investigation, a forward link led to the arrest of another alleged peddler, Gourav, a Rajiv Nagar resident of Narwal, the spokesperson said.
Enquiry further revealed that the accused had amassed a bank balance of Rs 9 lakh, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade, which was subsequently frozen, he said.
ArunMehra and SouravSodhi were arrested in Jammu's Bahu Fort and TalabKhatikan areas after 5.71 grams and 7.23 grams of heroin were recovered from their possession, respectively, the spokesperson said. He said two more peddlers, Auruangzeb and MohdAmjad, were arrested along with over seven grams of heroin in Rajouri.
The spokesperson said Rohit Kumar, Nissar Sheikh and Vijay Kumar were also arrested from Samba, Udhampur, and Reasi districts, respectively and three grams of heroin were recovered from Rohit, 3.83 grams from Sheikh and 3.6 grams from Kumar. He said all the arrested drug peddlers were booked under the NDPS Act.
