Special NDPS Court grants bail to accused in NCB drug case

JAMMU, Jul 14: The Court of the Sessions Judge/Special Judge (NDPS Cases), Jammu, presided over by Parvaiz Iqbal, has granted bail to accused Maqsood Ahmad Lone in a case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu, under the NDPS Act.
The bail application was argued by Advocate M. A. Dar on behalf of the accused, while the NCB was represented by Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Singh Manhas.
While allowing the bail application, the Court observed that the rigours of Section 37 of the NDPS Act were not applicable as the accused had already been discharged of the offence under Section 27A of the NDPS Act at the stage of charge/discharge.
The Court noted that charges had been framed only under Sections 8, 15, 29 and 60 of the NDPS Act, for which the prescribed punishment does not exceed ten years.
Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the Court granted bail to the accused subject to furnishing a personal bond of ?1 lakh along with two sureties of the like amount to the satisfaction of the Superintendent of the concerned Jail. The Court also directed the accused to comply with the conditions imposed while on bail.
