3rd Under Trial Review Committee meeting for 2026 held

JAMMU, Jul 15: The 3rd Under Trial Review Committee meeting for 2026 was held today at 3 pm in the Office Chamber of the Principal District & Sessions Judge/ Chairman, DLSA Jammu. The meeting was chaired by Principal District & Sessions Judge /Chairman DLSA Jammu, R.N. Watal.
During the meeting, cases of Under Trial Prisoners falling under various categories of UTRC were reviewed. Discussions covered the status of cases, pendency, possibility of release on bail, expeditious disposal and provision of free legal aid to eligible inmates. The Committee reviewed cases eligible for release under Section 479 BNSS and other categories as per NALSA guidelines. Officers concerned were directed to ensure coordination for early disposal of pending cases and provide legal assistance to under-trial inmates.
Among those present were DLSA Jammu Secretary Maleeka Sharma (Civil Judge Sr Division), Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ansuya Jamwal, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu Joginder Singh, Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Superintendent Chhabil Singh, District Jail Amphalla Superint-endent Dharminder Singh and Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Jammu Adv Anil Sharma.
