Udhampur, Jul 18: The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra was taken out with religious fervour and enthusiasm from Roun to Gole Mela on Dhar Road in Udhampur, with a large number of devotees participating in the procession.
MLA Udhampur East Ranbir Singh Pathania flagged off the yatra and described Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra as a symbol of spiritual awakening, selfless service and humility.
Addressing the gathering, Pathania referred to the tradition associated with the Rath Yatra in which the path of Lord Jagannath's chariot is ceremonially swept, saying it conveyed the message of equality and underscored that true leadership was rooted in humility and service.
He also spoke about the relevance of the Bhagavad Gita and said its teachings offered guidance to people in dealing with challenges and different phases of life.
"For every dilemma, there is a message in the Gita; for every crisis, there is a path of Dharma; and for every seeker, there is the light of eternal wisdom," Pathania said.
He called upon people to imbibe the ideals of selfless action, faith, discipline and universal brotherhood.
A large number of devotees participated in the procession, singing devotional hymns and chanting "Hari Bol" and "Jai Jagannath" as the yatra passed through Dhar Road.
The programme was organised by the Hare Rama Hare Krishna Mission, Udhampur, with the support of local residents.
Samer Singh, Krishan Singh, Sarpanch Dara Singh, Sonu, Makhan, Ashok Padha, Ravi Padha, Janu Bandral, Dhanveer, Ajay Singh and Ansh Ranyal were among those who coordinated the event. Several local residents and public representatives also attended the programme.
Pathania appreciated the organisers and the local community for their efforts in preserving and promoting the country's spiritual and cultural heritage.
