L-G Saxena dedicates 70 public libraries to people of Ladakh

JAMMU, Jul 27: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday dedicated 70 modern public libraries to the people of Ladakh, describing them as centres of learning, innovation, research and community participation that will strengthen educational infrastructure across the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor virtually dedicated 35 libraries each in Leh and Kargil districts and also inaugurated a newly established public library at Trespone in the TSG block of Kargil district.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, executive councillors and senior government officials were present on the occasion.
The libraries have been equipped with modern facilities, including heating systems suitable for Ladakh's harsh winters, computers, well-stocked bookshelves and dedicated reading spaces to support students preparing for competitive examinations and higher education.
Addressing the gathering, Saxena said the initiative marked not just the inauguration of buildings but the beginning of a movement towards a more educated, enlightened and empowered Ladakh.
He said that while physical infrastructure such as roads and bridges is essential for development, institutions that promote knowledge, creativity and character are equally important in building a progressive society.
Describing the libraries as an investment in Ladakh's human capital, the Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence that they would emerge as vibrant centres of learning, innovation, research, community engagement and lifelong learning.
