Crime Branch chargesheets accused for cheating, forgery & fraudulent insurance claim

Jammu, Aug 1: The Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet against a former employee of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance in the Court of Third Additional Munsiff Judge Jammu in fraudulent insurance claim. As per the official communique, the chargesheet has been filed in a case initially registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The case arose from a complaint by Deepak Bhat, Branch In-charge of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co. Ltd. Jammu, alleging that former employee Parul Sharma fraudulently surrendered Policy No. 08551598 using forged documents and diverted Rs. 10,75,742.95/-to a fake SBI account opened in the policyholder's name. Similar attempts were allegedly made in respect of two other policies.
Accordingly, FIR was also registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar Jammu and was later transferred to Crime Branch Jammu for in-depth investigation.
During the investigation, records from SBI and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company revealed that accused Parul Sharma fraudulently obtained duplicate policy documents, forged surrender papers and opened a fake SBI account in the genuine policyholder's name using forged documents.
The surrendered policy amount of Rs.10,75,742.95/- was subsequently transferred to the said account through NEFT. Witness statements, documentary evidence and FSL examination established the accused's role in opening the fraudulent account and executing the fraudulent surrender, causing wrongful loss to ICICI Prudential and the policyholder and corresponding wrongful gain to himself, read a communique.
Based on the oral, documentary, and scientific evidence, the investigation was concluded and the chargesheet was filed before the Court of the Third Additional Munsiff Judge, Jammu for judicial determination.
The general public is advised to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any such
incident to SSP Crime Branch EOW Jammu (Crime Branch, J&K), it read.
