PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar organises Independence Day competitions

Jammu, Aug 7: Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women (PSPS GCW), Gandhi Nagar, organised a series of intra-college competitions as part of its Independence Day 2026 celebrations to promote patriotism, creativity and awareness about India's freedom struggle and democratic values.
Students from various departments participated enthusiastically in the competitions organised under the aegis of different academic departments and college units.
The Department of Home Science organised a painting competition on the theme "Important Events of the Freedom Struggle", while the Departments of Hindi, English and Urdu conducted an essay writing competition on "Drug-Free India: Towards a Healthy and Empowered Nation."
The NCC and NSS units jointly organised a seminar on "Responsible Youth:
Architect of a Strong Nation," highlighting the significance of Independence Day and the role of young people in nation-building.
The Departments of History and Political Science conducted a quiz competition on "National Freedom Struggle and National Heroes" to enhance students' knowledge of India's freedom movement, the Constitution and national heritage.
The Department of Music also organised a National Anthem Singing Competition in both solo and group categories, providing students an opportunity to showcase their patriotic spirit and musical talent.
The programmes were held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Kulvinder Kour, who appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members. She lauded the efforts of the organising departments and faculty coordinators for successfully conducting the events.
The celebrations concluded on a patriotic note, reinforcing the values of national pride, unity and responsible citizenship among the students.
