Centre notifies appointment of 28 judges to four High Courts at Madras, Karnataka, Calcutta and Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI, Aug 7: The Centre on Friday notified the appointment of 28 judges to the High Courts of Madras, Calcutta, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh following approval by the President.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments in a post on X, stating that the appointments had been made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India under the provisions of the Constitution.
According to the notification, 15 appointments have been made to the Madras High Court, including five advocates as judges and 10 additional judges comprising three advocates and seven judicial officers.
The advocates appointed as judges of the Madras High Court are Govindrajan Krishnaswamy, Rajnish Pathiyil, Ramesh Natarajan, G.K. Muthukumar and Ramkrishna Rajesh Vivekananthan.
Those appointed as additional judges are advocates Raveekumar Sankarnarayanan, Dilip Kumar Nagarajan and Ellapan Manoharan, along with judicial officers Dr. P. Murugan, M.D. Sumathi, S. Alli, C. Thirumagal, Shanmugan Karthikeyan, Murugasen Baluchamy and N. Gunasekaran.
The Centre also notified the appointment of eight advocates as judges of the Calcutta High Court. They are Aryak Dutt, Atarup Banerjee, Sandip Kumar De, Partha Pratim Roy, Sudip Deb, Anuj Singh, Arjun Ray Mukherjee and Rishad Medora.
For the Karnataka High Court, the Centre appointed six advocates as judges. They are Hema Kulkarni, Raghavendra S. Srivatsa, Subramanya Rangarao, Vivekananda Thadagavadi Prakash, Pramod Bakkeswara and Shanthi Bhushan Hombe Gowda.
The notification also announced the appointment of Advocate Amit Lahoti as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The appointments were notified by the Department of Justice after the President approved the recommendations made in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
