PSPS GCW Gandhinagar celebrates 80 years of Independence with patriotic fervour

Jammu, Aug 12: Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu, organised a series of district-level competitions to commemorate 80 years of Independence, bringing together students from colleges across Jammu district.
The celebrations were organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Higher Education, Jammu and Kashmir, and aimed to connect the younger generation with the struggles, sacrifices and spirit of the freedom movement.
Students participated enthusiastically in four competitions - National Anthem Singing, Essay Writing, Painting and Quiz - showcasing their patriotic spirit, creativity and knowledge.
The National Anthem Singing Competition was coordinated by the Department of Music and adjudged by Dr. Sumeet Madan and Dr. Roshi Shamnotra, instructors from the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu.
The Essay Writing Competition, coordinated by the Department of Languages, provided students an opportunity to express their views on India's freedom struggle. The competition was judged by Dr. Samriti Manchandha, GDC Samba; Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, GDC Hiranagar; and Dr. Koushal Kiran, Assistant Professor, GDC Bishnah.
The Painting Competition was coordinated by the Department of Home Science, with students portraying important events, national heroes and defining moments of the freedom movement through their artwork. Sh. Rohit Verma and Sh. Ankeush, teaching faculty members of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu, adjudged the entries.
The Quiz Competition, coordinated by the Departments of History and Political Science, witnessed enthusiastic participation and healthy intellectual competition, with students displaying their knowledge of the freedom struggle, national heroes and important milestones in India's history.
The celebrations concluded with a prize distribution ceremony during which Principal Dr. Kulvinder Kour felicitated the winners and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kulvinder Kour encouraged students to make the most of such opportunities and emphasised that participation in co-curricular activities plays an important role in developing confidence, creativity, leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility.
