Bovine smuggler detained under PSA, drug offender jailed in Kathua

JAMMU, Aug 16: Police on Sunday detained an alleged bovine smuggler under the PSA and an alleged drug offender under the PITNDPS Act in Kathua district, officials said.
Police said Talib Hussain, a resident of Mahi Chak in Kathua, was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), following his "repeated involvement" in bovine smuggling and other criminal activities.
The detention warrant, issued by Kathua DM, was executed on Sunday by a team from Kathua police station, they said.
According to police, Hussain has 17 cases registered against him at Kathua, Rajbagh, Hiranagar, Ghagwal and Lakhanpur police stations. Most of the cases pertain to bovine smuggling allegations and offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, they said.
Police said a dossier was prepared against Hussain after his allegedly continued involvement in such activities and submitted to the DM, who subsequently issued the detention warrant. He was arrested and lodged in jail after execution of the warrant, they added.
In separate action, police executed a detention warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act against Rupesh Kumar alias Bobby, a resident of Chak Drab Khan, for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, they said.
Police said Kumar has six drug-related cases filed against him.
The detention warrant was issued by Jammu divisional commissioner, following a dossier prepared by Kathua police and submitted for preventive detention. A team from Kathua police station executed the warrant on Sunday and lodged Kumar in jail, they said.
