SC’s three-day ‘Samadhan Samaroh’ concludes; 1,712 cases disposed of

NEW DELHI, Aug 24: The Supreme Court's three-day Special Lok Adalat, held as part of the 'Samadhan Samaroh' 2026 initiative, concluded on Sunday with 1,712 cases being settled or disposed of.
According to the press release issued by the apex court on Monday, the Special Lok Adalat was held from August 21 to 23 as the culmination of the three-day programme -- Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonization Across Nation -- an initiative undertaken under the guidance of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
The initiative commenced on April 21 with a structured pre-settlement process to identify pending matters having the potential for amicable resolution. Litigants and their counsel were engaged in advance to explore possibilities of settlement.
During the three-day Lok Adalat, 3,285 cases were listed while 1,664 cases were settled or disposed of. Another 48 cases were resolved through mediation, taking the overall number of cases disposed of to 1,712.
On August 21, 588 cases were listed and 402 were settled or disposed of, while 1,159 cases were listed on August 22, with 350 settled or disposed of. On the final day, 1,538 cases were listed and 912 were settled or disposed of.
The court said Rs 240.94 crore was disbursed during the three days. The Lok Adalat benches were presided over by the CJI and comprised other senior judges, judges, senior advocates and advocates-on-record, assisted by senior registrars and other officials of the Supreme Court Registry.
The benches encouraged parties to arrive at settlements voluntarily through dialogue and consensus.
The matters taken up included matrimonial and property disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition and compensation cases, tax matters, and service and labour disputes.
The Supreme Court said the initiative highlighted the benefits of consensual dispute resolution, including reducing litigation time and costs, providing greater certainty and finality to litigants, reducing pendency and conserving judicial time.
