Sukhnandan welcomes SOG land allotment, seeks eviction of adjoining encroachers

Jammu, Aug 24: Former minister and senior BJP leader Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar on Monday welcomed the allotment of 9 kanal and 15 marlas of State land to the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police near Nikki Tawi, but sought a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive in the adjoining area.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Sukhnandan, accompanied by J&K BJP Media In-charge Dr Pardeep Mahotra, former DDC Balbir Lal and an affected person, Tarsem, said the allotted land falls under Khasra Nos. 301, 302 and 303 at Jammu Khas.
He said the allotment was a welcome step as the land would be utilised for an important police purpose, but urged the administration to undertake a fresh survey and reclaim all State land allegedly under encroachment in the vicinity of the fourth bridge at Jammu Khas.
Sukhnandan claimed that nearly 500 kanals of Ghar Mumkin Tawi land within about 200 metres of the allotted site was allegedly under encroachment, with permanent structures and large residential buildings having been constructed on portions of State land.
He said the mutation relating to the land had earlier been cancelled by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, but alleged that illegal constructions continued to come up in the area. "I fully welcome the allotment of 9 kanal and 15 marlas to the SOG, but the Government must also explain why the other huge encroachments in the same area have not been removed. If the land is State property, then every inch of it has to be protected and reclaimed," he said.
Sukhnandan demanded fresh physical demarcation of Khasra Nos. 301, 302 and 303 and adjoining State and Ghar Mumkin Tawi land, besides identification of encroachers and verification of revenue records, mutations and registration documents.
