GDC Purmandal conducts cyber hygiene and security awareness programme

Jammu, Aug 24: Government Degree College (GDC) Purmandal organised an awareness programme on "Cyber Hygiene and Cyber Security" in collaboration with I3C, IIT Jammu, Cyber Peace and Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation, with support from Google.org.
The programme aimed to sensitise students and staff about the safe and responsible use of digital technology and common cyber threats.
Prof Shahima Akhter, Cyber First Responder and Master Trainer at the college, delivered the session and spoke about online safety, protection of personal information, strong passwords, two-factor authentication, phishing, online fraud, social media safety, malware and responsible internet use.
She also provided practical guidance on identifying suspicious links, messages, emails, websites and other potentially harmful online activities. Participants were advised to report cyber incidents promptly and follow good cyber hygiene practices.
Principal Prof (Dr) Indu Khajuria highlighted the growing importance of cyber awareness among students in the digital age. She said cyber security was not limited to technical experts but was the responsibility of every individual using digital devices and online services.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which students raised queries on cyber security and online safety.
