Suspected Pak drones sighted along LoC in Rajouri, Poonch; searches launched

JAMMU, Aug 29: Security forces launched search operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts following sightings of suspected Pakistani drones and reports of suspicious movement in forward areas, officials said.
In Rajouri's Nowshera sector, suspected Pakistani drones were seen flying along the LoC in the Rumlidhara area around midnight on Thursday, officials said. Alert troops opened fire, following which the drones retreated towards the Pakistani side.
Following unconfirmed reports of suspected movement of an infiltrator along the LoC in the Nowshera sector, security forces launched a search operation to sanitise the forward areas and rule out any infiltration attempt.
In Poonch, a drone suspected to be from Pakistan was spotted hovering over forward areas in Behrooti village of Balakote in the Mendhar sector late Friday evening, officials said.
The drone moved towards the Mangalnar-Dabrote area near the border before returning towards Pakistan, they said.
Army troops guarding the LoC intensified surveillance and launched a search operation at first light to ascertain whether the drone had dropped or carried any suspicious material. The operation was underway and security forces remained on heightened alert along the border.
Meanwhile, police, Army and paramilitary forces were conducting a joint search operation in forested areas of Udhampur, Kathua and Rajouri following inputs about suspicious movement.
The operation covered areas including Khuban, Nagain, Khtrail, Godu Falal, Padetar, Chor Mottu, Kia, Kheba, Bhed, Marta and Joffar and adjoining areas in the Udhampur-Kathua forest belt.
In Rajouri, separate searches were launched in Gaibas, Mithiyani, Mogla and Narla after villagers reported the movement of two suspected armed persons believed to be terrorists.
Officials said no contact with any suspected persons had been established so far.
Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance along the LoC and in the adjoining forest areas as search operations continue.
