GDC Purmandal organises workshop on self employment and careers in environmental sciences

JAMMU, Sep 2: The Career Counselling Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Purmandal, in collaboration with the Employment Information-cum-Advisory Bureau, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, organised a one-day career counselling workshop on "Self-Emplo-yment Opportunities and Careers in Environmental Sciences" at the college premises.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the presentation of planters to the dignitaries and resource persons. Principal Prof (Dr) Indu Khajuria welcomed the guests, resource persons, faculty members and students.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Khajuria stressed the importance of organising such programmes for students at a crucial stage of their academic journey and encouraged them to explore diverse career pathways beyond conventional employment opportunities.
Prof Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, highlighted the significance of career counselling in helping students make informed academic and professional choices.
Dr Harleen Kour, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, briefed students about self-employment and various government schemes and opportunities under the New India regime.
Dr Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, apprised the students of career prospects in emerging areas such as environmental consultancy, waste management, biodiversity conservation, environmental impact assessment, pollution control, sustainable development, renewable energy, climate change, environmental monitoring and research.
Dr Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL, University of Jammu, highlighted the importance of career counselling and motivated students to choose career paths according to their interests, personality, skills and abilities.
Prof Shahima Akhter, Coordinator of the programme, conducted the proceedings and expressed gratitude to the Principal, Director, resource persons, faculty members and students for their contribution towards the successful conduct of the event.
