Five-day workshop on skill-based learning in biosciences inaugurated at Cluster University of Jammu

JAMMU, Sep 8: A five-day workshop on "Skill-Based Learning in Biosciences (NEP-2020)" was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Research, Extension & Innovation Hub (Biosciences), Cluster University of Jammu.
The workshop is being organised by Cluster University of Jammu in collaboration with Rapture Biotech Jammu & Kashmir and the Jammu and Kashmir Science, Techn-ology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC), with funding support from JKSTIC.
The inaugural session was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, who emphasised the need to strengthen practical and skill-oriented education in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Vice Chancellor said modern higher education must move beyond conventional classroom learning and provide students with hands-on exposure, industry-relevant skills and opportunities for innovation.
Dr Meenakshi, Director, IQAC, Cluster University of Jammu, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of skill-based education. She appreciated the initiative for providing students and faculty members with practical exposure to contemporary bioscience techniques.
Dr Ambika, Director, Rapture Biotech Jammu & Kashmir, said skill-based learning was the need of the hour, particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of biotechnology and life sciences.
She emphasised that students needed practical competencies alongside academic knowledge to become employable, innovative and future-ready.
Ms Ankur Mahajan, JKAS, Registrar, Cluster University of Jammu, also attended the inaugural session and appreciated initiatives aimed at strengthening experiential learning and developing industry-oriented competencies among students.
Dr Ratandeep Singh, Head, Department of Microbiology, Lovely Professional University, was the resource person. He spoke about the growing importance of molecular techniques in modern biosciences and their applications in research, diagnostics, biotechnology and emerging life-science technologies.
The proceedings were conducted by Prof Sugandha Mahajan, HoD, Botany, Cluster University of Jammu and Organising Secretary of the workshop, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
