Police SI booked under NDPS Act after drug test confirms substance consumption in Kathua

KATHUA, Sep 8: A police Sub-Inspector posted at a police station in Kathua district has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after a medical examination allegedly indicated consumption of a narcotic substance, officials said.
According to officials, PSI Amjid Khan (GEC No. 245791) was allegedly found displaying behaviour that raised suspicion of substance consumption while on the premises of the police station.
He was subsequently taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Hiranagar for medical examination. A drug-testing kit was used during the examination and the test reportedly indicated consumption of a narcotic or contraband substance, officials said.
Following the medical report, FIR No. 97/2026 was registered at the concerned police station under Sections 8 and 27 of the NDPS Act.
The investigation has been entrusted to PSI Rajat Jasrotia (No. 196315/EXJ). Further investigation into the circumstances of the alleged consumption is underway.
