ACB arrests ASI for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe in Reasi

JAMMU, Sep 10: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Reasi district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, officials said.
The accused, Talib Hussain, was allegedly demanding illegal gratification from a complainant for presenting a charge sheet against the accused persons in a case before a court, they said.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification which corroborated the allegations of demand for bribe. Subsequently, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was constituted, the officials said.
During the trap operation, Hussain was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant, they said.
The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses and he was arrested on the spot following due legal procedure, they said.
A case under the Prevention of corruption act has been registered against him by ACB. Further investigation into the case is underway, they added.
This is the second successful trap operation conducted by the ACB at Police Post Talwara in Reasi in 2026, the officials said.
