NC govt accelerated development across J&K: Surinder Choudhary

Kishtwar, Sep 16: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said the National Conference-led government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had accelerated development across the Union Territory, with focus on rural, remote and far-flung areas.
Addressing a public meeting at Chatroo in the Inderwal Assembly constituency, chaired by NC Kishtwar district president Tanveer Ahmad Kichloo, Choudhary said development projects and public facilities had gained momentum since the government assumed office.
He said the government was committed to extending development to every region and section of society, with attention to sectors including tourism, roads, Jal Shakti, healthcare and education.
Earlier, Inderwal MLA Pyare Lal Sharma presented his two-year report card, listing around two dozen development works concerning roads, Jal Shakti, healthcare and education, besides about a dozen projects in the pipeline and a major tunnel project.
Sharma said the projects were expected to create employment and livelihood opportunities for local youth and thanked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for giving impetus to development in the area.
Addressing the gathering, NC Jammu provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta said the BJP had, in his assessment, lost the trust of sections of people in Jammu and Kashmir, citing unfulfilled commitments, particularly regarding restoration of statehood.
Gupta referred to statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding restoration of statehood and said the continued delay had disappointed sections of the population.
The issue of restoration of statehood remains a major political demand in J&K, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also referring to the Centre's earlier assurances on the matter in recent public remarks.
