NEW DELHI, Oct 7: As he completed 25 years as head of government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said he will continue to serve the nation with the same spirit of duty and devotion for building a developed India.
Modi also said that he remains committed to working with even greater energy to realise the collective vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'.
He said these 25 years have been a "deeply fulfilling journey of service, shaped at every stage by the affection, faith and blessings of the people".
Thanking President Droupadi Murmu for her greetings on achieving the milestone, Modi said whatever progress the country has witnessed has been possible because crores of Indians chose to participate in the nation's transformation with confidence and determination.
He said it is especially heartening to see this change reflected in everyday lives.
"Rashtrapati Ji, thank you for the wishes and generous words... I shall continue to serve our nation with the same spirit of duty and devotion as we all move together towards building a 'Viksit Bharat'," he said on X.
Modi also thanked Vice President CP Radhakrishnan for his warm wishes and kind words on his completion of 25 years as head of government.
"This journey of service has been strengthened at every step by the trust and participation of the people of India. Your observations from across the States and Union Territories are deeply encouraging. I remain committed to working with even greater energy to realise our collective vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'," he said.
In the morning, Modi offered prayers at the Shri Vinayaka Temple here and renewed his pledge to serve the country with utmost dedication.
Modi has been continuously serving as head of government -- first as chief minister of Gujarat for three terms and subsequently as prime minister of India after winning three Lok Sabha elections -- since October 7, 2001.
Earlier, addressing the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha' to mark a quarter-century as a head of government, Modi coined a slogan, "We Will Do It" and asserted that India will become a developed nation by 2047, but flagged casteist divisions during elections as a major challenge.
Modi also highlighted his government's achievements in different sectors and said what once seemed unimaginable has become possible.
"The dream we are seeing today in 2026 of a developed India will surely come true. There is no reason for India to stop now. A hundred years ago, we were even less than 40 crore; today, we are more than 140 crore. The 140 crore citizens together will build a developed India by 2047, and we certainly will. We Will Do It," he said.
The prime minister, however, cautioned that political fragmentation for vote-bank gains remains one of the nation's steepest hurdles, reminding citizens that when adversity strikes, it impacts every community and caste without discrimination.
