NC will sweep upcoming Panchayat, ULB polls whenever held: Rattan Lal Gupta
24/10/2026
JAMMU, Oct 23: Senior National Conference leader and Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, on Friday expressed confidence that his party would win the forthcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections whenever they are held, citing its governance record, development initiatives and commitment to social justice.
Gupta said the National Conference-led government under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was committed to inclusive development, strengthening democratic institutions and addressing the genuine concerns of people across Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Gupta said political rhetoric alone would not help parties win public confidence. He criticised the performance of BJP legislators during the recent session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, alleging that they had failed to effectively raise issues concerning their constituencies and had disrupted proceedings unnecessarily.
He also referred to the BJP's performance in previous Panchayat and local body elections in Kishtwar district, claiming that the party was losing ground there.
Gupta said the electorate would judge political parties on their performance, public engagement and commitment to resolving people's problems. He added that the National Conference would continue to highlight issues relating to development, employment, rural infrastructure, drinking water, electricity, roads and the welfare of weaker sections.
